Digitise Your Prints

There are many reasons to cherish tangible photographs, especially original prints which have their own unique presence. Having and holding an old photo, possibly passed down through generations, connects us with the past in ways which digital photography often fails to do. Unfortunately, all photographic prints are subject to deterioration at varying rates and severity. Nonetheless, deterioration is an ongoing natural process and, while there is much that can be done to slow the deterioration of printed photographs, they do have their limits. For example, specialised conservation by a professional photographer is both highly expensive and time consuming, while simple preventative conservation methods such as maintaining a good storage environment merely prolongs the inevitable. What’s more, you want to be able to have your photos on show and not just store them away in a dark corner of the attic.

How We Scan Your Photos

Our digitisation process:

  1. You pick a Memory Box in the appropriate size and select your chosen output format. We have 4 options to choose from.
  2. Our Memory Box arrives with you the next day, you fill it with all your photographs and printed images. We can do negatives and APS film cartridges too, there’s no need to get them developed beforehand.
  3. Each photo is cleaned and dusted. In the majority of cases, soft brushes and lint-free gloves will do most of the work, but we may occasionally use isopropyl solution depending on the quality of the image. Any methods are used judiciously.
  4. We scan each photo individually with our high-specification scanners to create a high resolution digital file. High-resolution files allow you to recreate large prints in excellent detail.
  5. We will do some basic editing to colour-correct and remove blemishes or watermarks where possible. Some simple changes can take old faded photos and completely rejuvenate them!
  6. Your photo files are transferred to your preferred storage option.
  7. All the original prints are returned safely to you, along with the converted format.

Why should I digitise my photos?

Digital photos are a relatively recent phenomenon, so it’s not uncommon for households to have boxes upon boxes of photographs which, despite containing precious memories, also take up valuable space around the home, collecting dust in cupboards and garages. Our customers tell us that converting prints to digital and DVD allows them to feel secure in the knowledge that their fond memories will be protected. Keep and maintain your original photos and prints – we know how meaningful they are – but converting prints to digital and DVD will keep them safe for many more years to come so that, god forbid, when the original photo you have on your wall does deteriorate, you will have a safety net that enables your treasured memories to live on.

The best way to convert photos to digital and DVD

EachMoment offers the best solution by scanning and converting printed photos to digital and DVD – and there is no better time to do so than now. Each year, we will scan tens of thousands of photographic prints to digital and DVD. Converting your prints to digital and DVD can be a painstaking process – take our word for it. EachMoment take all the hassle out of this process, making converting your prints to digital and DVD and preventing your images from degrading too easy to pass up. If you have any prints – or any other old formats – that you’d like preserved on DVD and digital which are accessible on your smartphone, TV and computer, we will collect your old photos and tapes from your doorstep, convert them to digital and return them to you in one of our Memory Boxes.

A Brief History of Print Photographs

Almost everyone will have a framed printed photograph in their home. Whether it be an old school photo, snaps of relatives or a shot from a fondly remembered family holiday, printed and framed photographs have been commonplace in households since the late 1800s. Printed photographs may seem fairly ordinary to us today, but they have undergone a lengthy journey of continuous improvement. Methods which involved printing onto glass and metal using substances from salt, potato starch and gelatine have all paved the way for the high quality colour images that we hang in our living rooms today.

Developing photographs was the privy of photographers due to the complex chemistry that originally went into the process. But until the 1970s that high-street developers became common.
